If you can’t hear sound from your device, don’t worry. Follow the steps below based on your device type to help identify and fix the issue.
iOS (iPhone & iPad)
1. Check Silent Mode and Focus settings
If your device has a Ring/Silent switch, move it towards the screen so no orange is visible.
On iPad, swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Centre and make sure Silent Mode is turned off.
Go to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and confirm it is switched off.
2. Inspect and clean your device
Remove any cases, screen protectors or protective films.
Check the speaker and (on iPhone) the receiver for dust or blockages.
If needed, gently clean the openings using a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush.
3. Test the speaker
Go to Settings > Sounds (or Sounds & Haptics).
Move the Ringer and Alerts slider up and down.
If you don’t hear any sound, or the speaker icon is greyed out, your device may need servicing.
If sound plays:
Make a call and turn on speakerphone.
On iPad or iPod touch, try a FaceTime call.
If you hear crackling or no sound, the issue may be related to network coverage. Try again later or from another location.

Before you begin
Note: If fingerprint security is enabled, you may need your backup password after restarting your phone.
1. Remove accessories and connections
Unplug anything connected to the headphone jack or USB port.
Remove cases, covers, skins or adhesive accessories.
Turn off Bluetooth:
Swipe down to open Quick Settings
Tap the Bluetooth icon to switch it off
2. Restart your phone
Press and hold the Power button and select Power off
If your phone doesn’t have a power button:
Swipe down with two fingers
Tap the Power icon, then Power off
Wait 30 seconds, then turn the phone back on
3. Dry your phone (if it’s been exposed to water)
Gently dry the speaker, microphone, earpiece and charging port using a clean, soft cloth.
Do not expose the phone to salt water.
If exposed, rinse with fresh water and dry thoroughly to prevent salt build-up.
Water in the speaker can cause muffled or distorted sound.
4. Test the speaker
Play music and use the volume buttons to ensure sound isn’t muted.
If sound works correctly, one of the removed accessories may have been causing the issue.

Restart your phone.
Turn speakerphone on, then off during a call.
