If your device isn’t charging properly, try the steps below. These are simple troubleshooting tips that often resolve common charging issues.
1. Check your charger and cable
Plug your device into a power source using a USB cable and wall adapter, or a USB 2.0/3.0 port on a computer.
Inspect the cable and adapter for any damage.
Ensure everything is firmly connected and that the power outlet works.
Check the charging port for dust or debris. If cleaning doesn’t help, the port may need replacement.
2. Clean the charging or headphone port
Use a wooden toothpick to gently remove dust or lint from the port.
Move it carefully along the edges inside the port, wiping the toothpick clean after each attempt.
Repeat until the port is clear.
Do not use metal objects, as these can damage the port.
3. Prevent your device from overheating
Use your device in temperatures between 0–35ºC (32–95ºF).
Avoid leaving it in hot places, such as a parked car or direct sunlight.
Limit high-performance tasks (like GPS, games, or AR apps) in hot conditions.
Some warmth during use is normal and should cool down automatically.
4. Keep your software up to date
Updating your software can resolve charging problems caused by bugs.
iOS devices: Go to Settings > General > Software Update
Android devices: Go to Settings > System > System Update
5. Restore your device to factory settings (using a computer)
If the issue continues, restoring your device may help. Make sure to back up your data first.
Mac with macOS Catalina or later: Open Finder
Mac with Mojave or earlier, or Windows PC: Open iTunes
Connect your device, select it, and choose Restore
Following these steps should resolve most battery charging issues. If your device still won’t charge, professional support may be required.
