If your smartphone’s touchscreen isn’t responding correctly, it can be frustrating. Here are six ways to troubleshoot and fix common touch issues:
1. Clean your device
Wipe your phone with a lint-free cloth, a soft damp tissue, or disinfectant wipes.
Avoid harsh materials or cleaning products, including household cleaners and compressed air, as these can damage the screen.
2. Adjust 3D Touch sensitivity (if available)
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > 3D & Haptic Touch.
Turn the feature on, then use the slider to select your preferred sensitivity.
You can also adjust the duration speed and tap the image to test your new setting.
3. Close all applications
iOS devices:
Swipe up from the bottom and pause in the middle of the screen.
Swipe left or right to find the app(s) you want to close, then swipe up on the app preview.
Android devices:
Swipe up from the bottom, hold, and release.
Swipe from left to right and tap Clear all.
4. Force your device to restart
iOS devices:
Press and release the volume up button quickly, then do the same with volume down.
Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
Android devices:
Press and hold the Power and Volume down keys for 7–10 seconds.
5. Update your software
On your phone: Settings > General > Software Update.
Using a computer:
Open Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Mac or Windows PC).
Connect your phone, select it in the sidebar, click General, then Check for Update, and follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Restore your device to factory settings
iOS devices:
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Erase All Content and Settings.
Enter your passcode or Apple ID password and confirm.
Using a computer:
Open Finder or iTunes, select your device in the sidebar, and click Restore iPhone.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
⚠️ Note: Restoring your device will erase all data. Make sure to back up your important information before performing this step.
Following these steps should help resolve most touchscreen problems. If the issue continues, professional support may be required.
