If your device screen isn’t displaying correctly, you can try the steps below from home to troubleshoot the problem.
1. Adjust the brightness and colour of your screen
iOS devices:
Access Control Centre:
iPhone 8 or earlier: swipe up from the bottom of the screen
iPhone X or later, or iPad with iOS 12/iPadOS: swipe down from the top-right corner
You can also adjust brightness and colour temperature in Settings.
Android devices:
Go to Settings > Brightness and adjust the slider to your preferred level.
2. Reset auto-brightness settings
iOS devices:
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size
Toggle Auto-Brightness off and then back on to reset it.
3. Force your device to restart
iOS devices: Follow the steps for your specific iPhone model to force a restart.
Android devices: Press and hold the Power and Volume down keys for 7–10 seconds.
4. Reset all settings (iOS only)
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset All Settings
This won’t delete your data, but will reset settings like Wi‑Fi passwords and preferences.
5. Prevent overheating
Avoid leaving your device in a hot car or in direct sunlight for long periods.
Limit high-performance apps (like GPS, AR apps, or graphically intense games) in hot conditions.
Some warmth is normal during:
Setting up your device for the first time
Restoring from a backup
Using while charging
Streaming videos, especially in high quality
Using features like hotspots
Mild heating in these situations is normal and should not affect your device’s performance.
Following these steps should help resolve most display issues. If the problem continues, professional support may be required.
