If your device’s camera isn’t focusing properly, follow these steps to help resolve the issue quickly.
1. Restart your device
Restarting your device can fix temporary software issues that may affect the camera.
iOS devices
iPhone with Face ID:
Quickly press and release the Volume Up button, then the Volume Down button.
Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
iPhone without Face ID:
iPhone 7 / 7 Plus: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button together until the Apple logo appears.
iPhone 6s or SE (1st generation): Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Home button together until the Apple logo appears.
Android devices
Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button together for 7–10 seconds.
2. Check your camera and flash
iOS devices
Remove any cases, screen protectors, or accessories that might block the camera or flash.
Take a few photos to test the camera.
Gently clean the lens using a microfibre cloth.
Test the LED flash via Control Centre.
If the problem continues, consider resetting the Camera app or clearing its cache.
Android devices
Clean the camera lens carefully.
Reset the Camera app or clear its cache via Settings > Apps > Camera > Storage & cache > Clear cache.
3. Update your software
Keeping your device software up to date can fix camera issues.
iOS devices
Back up your device via iCloud or a computer.
Connect your device to a power source and Wi-Fi.
Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install the latest update.
Android devices
Go to Settings > System > System update.
Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install any available updates.
Following these steps should resolve most camera focus issues. If the camera still won’t focus, your device may need professional support or repair.
