If your device is having trouble connecting to mobile data or your network, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue.
1. Check for SIM card issues
Make sure your mobile plan is active with your network provider.
Restart your device (iPhone, iPad, or Samsung).
Check for any network provider settings updates:
iOS: Go to Settings > General > About. If an update is available, tap OK or Update.
Remove your SIM card and reinsert it carefully, ensuring the tray is closed properly. Using a SIM tray from a different device can cause problems.
Try using another SIM card. If you don’t have one, visit your provider’s store to test a SIM. It may just need replacing.
2. Reset your network settings
Ensure you’re in an area with mobile network coverage.
Turn your mobile data off and then back on:
iOS: Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data)
iPad: Settings > Mobile Data
Android: Settings > Mobile Data Network > Mobile Data
If you’re abroad, make sure data roaming is enabled:
iOS: Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Data Roaming
Reset network settings if the issue persists:
iOS: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset Device > Reset > Reset Network Settings
This will also reset saved Wi‑Fi networks, passwords, data settings, and VPN/APN configurations.
Android: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings > Reset Settings
3. Update your software
Keeping your device software up to date can fix network issues.
iOS devices:
Back up your device via iCloud or a computer.
Connect to a power source and Wi‑Fi.
Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install the latest update.
Android devices:
Go to Settings > System > System Update.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install updates.
4. Restore your device to factory settings
If the problem continues, restoring your device may help. Make sure to back up your data first.
iOS devices:
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset Device > Erase All Content and Settings and follow the prompts.
Or connect your device to a Mac or PC and use Finder or iTunes to restore it. This will erase your device and install the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. The device will restart automatically once restored.
Android devices:
Back up your data via Settings > Google > Backup.
Go to Settings > Factory Data Reset, enter your security credentials if prompted, and follow the instructions to reset your device.
Following these steps should resolve most network connectivity problems. If you still cannot connect, your device may need professional support.
